Derek Jones practises commercial law and commercial litigation. Mr. Jones once held the capacities of managing partner and head of the firm's litigation department. He is distinguished for his wide range of experience in law, and in business, where he has served as a director of several of Jamaica's leading financial entities. He was admitted in 1970 to the Jamaican Bar, and in 1980 was admitted to practice in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Jones lectured at the Norman Manley Law School, and is a former President of the Jamaican Bar Association. For many years he served as a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the General Legal Council. In May, 2001, Mr. Jones was appointed Honorary Consul for Sweden. He is also a Notary Public.
